I often write about being in the Here and Now with our horses. Some of you write directly to me and ask what does it really mean.
I am happy to tell you that this is very simple.
To be with your horse in the Here and Now you have to really enjoy the time you spend with your horse and that’s all.
To recall how it feels you can observe yourself – how you think, feel and act if you do something that you truly enjoy. When you do something that results from your passion there is only true happiness in you and you are not worrying about the outcomes of your actions.. also, you haven’t start doing it because of any kind of fear, pressure or oblige, in the first place. You are doing it just because you love it.
It is also profitable to observe children when they play – there is no fear about the future or judging the past and the sense of the time passing by. There is pure joy and happiness of doing things they love.
This means to be in the moment.
When you really enjoy the time you spend with your horse, when you really like your horse – magically everything is going perfectly O.K. To let it happen, your horse also needs to enjoy the time he spends with you. And this kind of playing together with your horse is the best attitude to training.
But please don’t think about the time you spend with your horse as of “work”. Sometimes I hear people say “I have to work with my horse today for one hour”. This is something that your horse cannot participate in, simply because horses don’t understand the concept of work. Why?
Because the concept of work is artificial and was invented by humans, and horses are part of Nature.
YOUR HORSE CAN UNDERSTAND ONLY THE THINGS THAT REALLY EXSITS, which means that he will not understand and will not be able to take part in anything that is a part of artificial concepts invented by humans.
So for you to be more effective with horses, it will also be better not to use these artificial concepts like work, planning, etc.
In effect, you will be amazed how many things that bother you really don’t exist…
