When we start a young horse under the saddle it’s a continued collection of THE FIRST TIMES: first time with a saddle pad, first time with a saddle on, first time having a rider on his back, first walk, first turn, first trot…
It’s our responsibility to make these moments as pleasant, Calm and as effortless for the horse as possible, because these first times he will remember for longest.
But it’s equally important to remember that while being busy checking off all the “fist time” boxes from your horse-training list, you at the same time are collecting YOUR FIRST-TIMES:
You are building the collection of MEMORIES with your horse for yourself. These memories can be full of stress and doubts, or calm and pleasant.
The memories you wish to have later when you look back at your today will show you the direction to follow and will tell you which actions you should take today, while preparing yourself and your horse for another FIRST TIME from your list.
