WHY DO WE WANT TO CONTROL OUR HORSES
and other people who are with their horses
Many times I see people reposting other people’s pictures and start discussions about them. Is it good, or is it wrong. Why with bit, why bitless. Why with spurs, why without spurs. Why on halter, why without halter. Why with saddle, why bareback. They let themselves be carried by their thoughts to a place where they very easily judge other people and their lives.
These people forget the simple truth that every life and every experience has the same value and is equally important on our path through this Life.
People have intellect and can think and reason about things that happened in the past, or will happen in the future. This is a very useful ability that can be very helpful in the practical, everyday life.
The thoughts like everything that exists are build on the very basic impulse to preserve their existence in time. And this is how the ego is build.
The ego is build from thoughts and by thoughts using this very basic impulse to exist. The ego is thoughts talking to thoughts and creating a false reality. Sometimes people think that they are their own ego, this happens when we are so into the thoughts that we no longer see and feel the world as it is. Those people impersonate themselves with their thoughts. And the basic impulse to exist and to preserve this existence becomes the most important thing in their life. Ego starts to control them using fear. And the ego wants to control everything around them: other people, their fate, the weather and of course horses.
This is how ego fights to preserve its existence. And that is why people feel fear and all other flavours of fear like impatience, anxiety, anger, selfishness, urge to judge and to be right.
That is why so many people want to control their horses. It really doesn’t matter if you want to use bits, snaffles, curb bits, cordeos, spurs, bitless bridles or even ONLY YOUR MIND to control your horse.
That impulse comes from your ego, and it’s build on fear.
To really see how you can interact with your horses and other people you have to learn how to observe your thoughts and to see that you are not your thoughts. Do not judge your thoughts, do not try to fight them, this will be ego interacting with ego. Just observe your thoughts. This way you will see that controlling is not important for you.
What is important is to be together and to help each other to understand who we really are.
Dear Anna……..wonderful article…….very well written……nothing to add…….the only response perhaps I wish to give is a quote from A Course in Miracles….PERCEPTION is a MIRROR not a FACT….
I shall be writing a mini article shortly on this subject …
Take care and I wish to read many more of your wonderful and wisely written Newsletters in the future….
Geerteke
Yes, it’s so very true, Geerteke. Thank you for your input. If we ask 20 people what they have seen – each of them will say different things. I feel that our perception is just a mirror of our thoughts, emotions and our previous experiences. Obviously, I can’t wait to read your thoughts on this subject.
This is a beautiful illustration 😁
