Not that long ago, about 60 years, people were asking bears to sit on them to reduce the pain. When we look at such pictures today, we immediately think that today we have better methods. We do not see bears sitting on people every day, so we must have better methods.
Many things improved, but the attitude towards the pain is all the time the same: pain is something that should be eliminated. We do not want to feel the pain. And it is absolutely fine. No one wants, or should be in pain.
In the past scientists were thinking that pain is created in the place where the body is under stress and that the pain is transmitted through nerve fibers to the brain. When you agree with such a model, you start seeing a solution for pain problem: cut the communication. Most of the medicines work this way: they cut or disturb communication in the body.
Today scientists agree that pain is not transmitted from the place in the body to the brain. Mind creates pain by mind based on stimuli transmitted from the body to the brain.
Since mind is creating the pain, maybe we can trick the mind to feel less or no pain? Such thinking opened a new era in treating pain. Now we do not sit our bear on the body; we sit the bear on the mind.
We have more and more sophisticated methods, but the first assumption stays: we do not want to feel pain.
And it is perfectly OK. We do not have to feel pain in our lives. The problem is that the top science specialists in the field of pain are dealing with very severe cases. They deal with situations, where comforting the person is the solution. Such thinking, that we can only comfort ourselves, is spreading and many people start believing that it is the only thing that we can or should do with the pain: cut it off from the mind.
When you trick your mind not to create the pain, whatever method you use, the pain is still there in the body. That means that your body is under stress, but now you are not conscious about it. I agree that there are many situations when this is the only solutions. Generally, this approach is what we call “hide the dirt under the carpet.” We feel better, but dirt is still there.
Pain is a method how the body can communicate, that we have tensions in the body and we do not want to release these tensions. When we have many tensions, and we do not grow our Awareness to release these this tensions then, the body starts communicating with us using louder voice: pain. If you do not listen to whisper, someone has to shut to you.
That is why it is so difficult to cut off the chronic pain. You would not use a bear for something that you can cure with herbs.
Scientists concluded that sleep and movement are much better in releasing pain than narcotics and surgeries.
Thankfully Nature has infinite intelligence and can lead us towards good solutions, even when we are totally wrong.
What sleep and movement of the body are doing? They are growing Awareness. And when Awareness grows the pain can go away.
We have hundreds of students who are practicing BodyMarc, and many of them are reporting that they feel less pain in their bodies. They feel less pain, not because they are cutting this pain off, but because they are open and they are growing Awareness.
When you cut off the pain, then the body is under stress, and the side effects can be bad for your body. When you listen to your pain, allow it to guide you, and you grow your Awareness, your body stores fewer tensions and the side effects are very good for you and your body.
We found a better way to deal with pain: practice BodyMarc, release tensions from your body, grow Awareness and wave goodbye to your pain. As a side effect: have more time and energy to play with your bear.
